Frequently Asked Questions

Applying

How do I apply to a program?

Select a program and complete the it's pre-screening questions. If you clear the screening, you can proceed with the annual GDT Care membership, which is payable only after you successfully clear your first screening.

What is the pre-screening, and why is it there?

Pre-screening is a short set of questions chosen by the host to check whether you meet the program's basic requirements. It helps match the right volunteers with the right opportunities, saving time for both you and the host.

What happens if I don't pass the screening?

You simply won't be able to apply to that particular program; but there are many others on GDT Care, and you're free to explore and apply to any that interest you. Passing screening is about fit for that specific program, nothing more.

What fees do I pay to join a GDT Care program?

GDT Care has an annual membership fee that allows volunteers to apply to unlimited programs during the membership period. However, under the current offer, this fee is waived and volunteers can access membership at no cost.

Depending on the program, additional charges such as a Fully Refundable Deposit, Training Fee, or Daily Expenses may apply. All applicable charges and their collection method will be clearly mentioned under Cost & Cancellation on the program page.

Why is there an annual membership?

The GDT Care annual membership helps build a trusted community of genuine, committed volunteers. It supports identity verification and gives hosts confidence that every applicant has completed GDT's membership and verification process.

What happens after I pay the program fee?

Once your payment is successful, your participation in the program is confirmed. You will be able to access the host’s contact details and coordinate with them regarding your arrival and other program-related arrangements.

Changing your mind, and cancellations

Can I withdraw my application?

Yes, you can cancel your application as per the program’s cancellation policy. Check the Cost & Cancellation section on the program page to see whether the program is cancellable and review the applicable cancellation terms.

What if I change my mind after I've confirmed?

If you can no longer participate, notify both the host and traveler_support@greatdtour.com as soon as possible. Your program confirmation fee is non-refundable, and failing to inform us before the start date will be treated as a no-show, which may affect your profile credibility and future applications.

What if the host cancels the program?

If a program is cancelled, the platform will handle refunds for payments made through the platform, in accordance with the applicable refund policy. You will be notified about the cancellation and the next steps.

What if my documents don't match after I'm confirmed?

If a host needs certain documents after confirmation and there's a genuine mismatch or something missing, the placement may be cancelled. In that case the confirmation fee isn't refunded, so it's worth making sure your details are accurate and ready.

Can I volunteer if I'm not an Indian national?

Yes. International volunteers are welcome to apply for eligible programs using their passport for identity verification. You're responsible for having the required visa, travel documents, and permissions, as Great D'Tour does not provide immigration advice.

What if something goes wrong during a program?

If you need immediate assistance during your program, such as a medical emergency, safety concern, or an issue on-site-contact your host first, as they are best placed to help you quickly.
If you're unable to reach your host, can't locate them, or need support with issues such as a dispute, inappropriate behaviour, a serious concern, or any situation that the host is unable to resolve, contact the GDT Support team at traveler_support@greatdtour.com at the earliest.

Can I bring someone with me?

You can check whether guests are permitted in the Program Details section. If allowed, you may bring one guest by adding their details during the pre-screening. The host makes the final decision based on availability and may charge additional costs; if your guest is under 18, parental or guardian consent is required.

What does a fully funded program mean?

A fully funded program means the host covers the expenses and provides the facilities mentioned under the program’s inclusions, such as accommodation, meals or other specified benefits. It does not necessarily mean that there are no charges at all; any applicable refundable deposit or additional charges will be clearly mentioned in the program details.

What is a Training Fee?

A Training Fee is charged for programs that offer structured training, skill development or specialised learning. The applicable amount will be mentioned in the program details and may be collected by the platform or paid directly to the host, as specified.

What are Daily Expenses?

Daily Expenses are charges towards program-related expenses such as food and accommodation. The amount and payment frequency will be mentioned in the program details, along with who collects the payment.

What is a Fully Refundable Deposit?

A Fully Refundable Deposit is a security amount collected to confirm your participation in a program. It is refundable upon successful completion of the program, subject to the applicable program rules.

Why do I need to pay a deposit?

The deposit acts as a commitment towards your participation in the program. It is refunded once you successfully complete the program and fulfil the applicable requirements.

What is the difference between a Cancellable and a Non-Cancellable program?

A Cancellable program allows you to cancel your participation within the specified cancellation window and receive a refund as per the program's cancellation policy. A Non-Cancellable program does not offer a refund on cancellation once your participation is confirmed.

Will I get a refund if I cancel a Cancellable program?

Yes. If you cancel within the cancellation window specified in the program details, you will be eligible for a refund as per the applicable cancellation policy. Cancellations made outside this window may not be eligible for a refund.

Will I get a refund if I cancel a Non-Cancellable program?

No. Once your participation is confirmed, the program fee for a Non-Cancellable program is non-refundable if you choose to cancel.

Is the Fully Refundable Deposit affected by the program's cancellation policy?

No. The Fully Refundable Deposit is separate from the program fee and is not governed by the Cancellable or Non-Cancellable status. Its refund is subject to successful program completion and the applicable deposit rules.

Who collects the program payment?

The program payment may be collected either by the platform or directly by the host. The collection method will be clearly mentioned in the Cost & Cancellation section of the program page.

What happens if I pay the host directly?

If the program payment is collected directly by the host, the host manages that payment. The applicable cancellation and refund terms will be mentioned in the program details. Any payments made through the platform will be handled by the platform.
