About the program
Support one of Bengaluru’s most respected elder care organizations, working alongside trained caregivers at a Dementia Day Care and Active Ageing Centre. Volunteers assist with daily elder care activities while learning and applying basic sign language to support seniors with hearing loss or communication difficulties. You’ll help facilitate cognitive stimulation activities, social engagement, and companionship, gaining hands-on exposure to professional elder care practices in a warm, structured setting. Set in the heart of Bengaluru, this program offers meaningful, closely supervised service — ideal for those exploring careers in gerontology, social work, or inclusive communication support.
9:00 AM – Arrive at the center, morning briefing with care staff
9:30 – 11:30 AM – Assist with morning activities — orientation therapy, physical exercises, communication support
11:30 AM – 12:30 PM – Support cognitive stimulation activities (memory games, reminiscence therapy)
1:00 PM – Lunch break
2:00 – 4:00 PM – Assist with afternoon social engagement, music/dance therapy, or sensory activities
4:00 – 4:30 PM – Debrief with supervising staff and reflection
Evening – Free time: city exploration or rest
Optional – Basic sign language practice sessions with staff to strengthen communication skills
Provide supervised elder care support — companionship, mealtime assistance, mobility support.
Use basic sign language and non-verbal communication techniques to support seniors with hearing loss.
Assist caregivers with therapeutic activities — reminiscence therapy, memory games, music/dance sessions.
Support group social engagement and orientation activities for seniors.
Help document participation and engagement, under staff supervision.
Assist with light physical activities and guided exercises for active ageing.
Support family caregivers with respite-care coordination, where appropriate.
Participate in daily briefings to understand individual care needs and communication preferences.
